Our Yirgacheffe coffee lots are sourced from Yirgacheffe country in Gedeo Zone of South Ethiopia region. This area is renowned for producing some of the finest coffees in the world, thanks to its unique combination of high elevation, fertile soil,Agroforestry and ideal climate conditions.
Elevation: The coffee plants thrive at elevations between 1,700 and 2,200 meters above sea level. This high altitude contributes to the beans’ dense structure and complex flavors.
Climate: The region enjoys a tropical climate with ample rainfall, which is perfect for coffee cultivation. The natural forest canopy provides shade, helping to maintain the ideal temperature for coffee plants.
Farming Practices: Most Yirgacheffe coffee is grown by smallholder farmers who use traditional, organic farming methods. These farmers often intercrop coffee with other food crops, which helps to enrich the soil and maintain biodiversity.
Processing: Yirgacheffe was one of the first regions in Ethiopia to adopt wet processing (washed) methods. This technique involves removing the coffee cherry’s pulp before drying the beans, resulting in a cleaner, brighter cup with pronounced fruity and floral notes.
